I know my dad Dale used to run at pacemakers alot. Mainly throughout the late 70's and the 80's. In 1984 he went to the ET FINALS and won Heavy Eliminator, which was a bracket that the index was about 13.00 to 14.99. I'm not sure if he went from pacemakers or trails that year I will have to check. He also has some track championships i'm sure because he always tells me how him and the McGee's would have such close points battle's. I will let you know more information when I find out more.

Oh yea I forgot to add that I have the "Wally" that my dad won sitting in my room with my collection of racing trophies and pictures. All of the time slips from the 84 et finals still look like brand new and they are all handwritten with just the ET and the MPH. Its amazing how far this sport has come in the last 20 years!!!

MY RECOLLECTION OF TRACK HISTORY DATES BACK TO THE 80s. AS A PART OF THE HILL FAMILY I WENT TO WATCH THEM RACE BIKES( I ACTUALLY WAS GOING TO RACE ONE OF THOSE CRAZY THINGS )BACK
IN THOSE DAYS IF IT RAN 9s IN THE 1/8 YOU DIDNT DARE DRIVE IT IN.
ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY DROVE A SUB 10 SECOND CAR ON THE STREET
WAS A REAL DAREDEVIL. PEOPLE ALSO DID ABOUT 40 DRYHOPS BEFORE
STAGING. ANYTIME ANYONE DOES ONE TODAY IT SEEMS FUNNY.
I REMEMBER LOTS OF CARS , SOME I HAVE EVEN OWNED : CALVIN DAVISSONS VEGA WAGON " BITS n PIECES , RIDGEWAYS NOVA, THE LATE MODEL MALIBU WAGON OF LAFEVER $ WAGNER , ERNIE CURRIES
EL - CAMINO , HARRY STILTNERS FIREBIRD.
I USED TO LIVE NEXT TO HENRY BELL, HE HAD THE RON AARON FORD MAVERIC WITH THE 9200RPM LIBERTY SHIFTED CLEVELAND MOTOR NEEDLESS TO SAY AT THE TRACK THE FRONT WHEELS WERE BARELY
EVER ON THE GROUND. WHEN I GOT OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE I GOT
INTO THE 5.0 MUSTANG HOP UP CRAZE. ( 1994 ) A LARGE GROUP OF
US USED TO RUN THE SAT NIGHT TROPY ELIM. IT WAS TOUGH , EVERYONE TRYING TO BEAT THE PARKERS. IT WAS FUN THEN.
SOME CARS WE USED TO MAKE FUN OF LIKE NEIL MARSHALLS
CHEVELLE LAGUNA, NOW MY GIRLFRIEND OWNS IT ( WITH ABOUT
460 + INCH PONTIAC POWER = 7.90s @ 4150lb) THINGS HAVE SURE
CHANGED.

It has sure been cool to see the old WINE WAGON back on the track
on Fridays lately . Its a damn shame that we lost the original driver ,
he was a tough competitor back in the day . I give a big thumbs up
to his grandson and the crew for putting it back together and bringing
it back out . I look forward to seeing it back in competition soon.

WHERE HAVE ALL THE COOL OLD CARS GONE Question

Someone ask if any parts of the old Hyde Park track was left. The ansewer to that is no! The old track is a housing development, and has been for several years. I know this because i built a new home for some folks on that site. One of the guys that was installing carpet for me was a local, and an old racer. He jogged my memory.

We used to go to Pacemakers - 1/4 mile then - every weekend to race back in the summer of 1968 and a few summers after that - 1966 Chevy Impala SS - 396 - 4 spd - dark blue with Cragars - could race for a trophy or a case of oil - after a few trophies started taking home the oil - was so into the racing forgot to take pics...darn it!... remember some times that it got so foggy and damp on a Saturday night had to clean the windshield to see to go the next round...thank goodness for good big heavy brakes on the far end too.
