I'm all for 1/8th mile for Pro and Super Pro!
Hmm... maybe I'll hold off on that gear change. |

I'll wait for an official word on that one. You know what they say about rumors. _________________ Michael Cochran

1/4 mile racing is the ONLY reason I race there. If they switch, I will not return. _________________ Bill Haag |

Good luck. Pretty soon 1/8 mile will be what it is everywhere. The natural progression of the sport as far as the technolgy and engineering to keep making us faster and the lack of the progression of the facilities to be able to accomodate the speeds. Remember, this sport started at a 1/2 mile. It became too fast, too hard on parts and was too dangerous. It switched to 1/4 mile to compromise. How many decades ago was that now?
The engineering and technology advancements in this sport lately have been unreal. 500+ inches have almost become the small blocks of this sport. We see speeds week in and week out that people never thought possible on an average bracket car. You can write all the rules you want and wrap a driver in bubble wrap, but if the facilities don't change to adjust to the speeds, it won't matter. Unfortunately the the technology for a safer barrier in drag racing isn't there. At least it isn't guard rails anymore. Some of the facilities (National Trail being one) don't have the necessary shut down space and makes it harder to get a 7.50 car stopped safely.
I like 1/4 mile racing. I like the quick ET and the big MPH that the scoreboard shows. I get the "fast is cool" or "fast as possible" mentaility of it. However, I would rather race 1/8 mile. Hell, the ride is over by that point. You don't gain that much mph in the back half. It's like setting the cruise control. Plus, it's safer and easier on the parts. |

Why not just race 330' then! It is the fast cars that want to go 1/8th mile. It doesn't make since. Why would you build or buy a car that you don't feel comfortable running in 1/4, then try to convince everyone to switch to 1/8th? Run it at a track that is already 1/8th. We are lucky enough to have a 1/4 mile facility in our area. We need to keep it. Nothing against Pacemakers, I like this track too. They used to run 300mph at Trails. If you can't get your car stopped at 200mph, then fix it or don't race it there. _________________ Bill Haag |

| I am very confident in the cars ability to stop running 180 at trails however, in the event of a brake failure or a throttle sticking, there is no extra room for error with a short shut down. In fact, most guys running slower do not have the extra room for error there as well. Norwalk is a great example and so is Quaker City. Plenty of room to make a correction in the event of a problem. Not every 1/4 mile track should run 1/8 mile. That's not what I said. What I said is there are facilities that have just out grown the speeds of the average bracket car. And yes they have wrecked them out there at 300 and 200 mph at trails do to the short shut down length. |

OK they should probably delete this thread. This is not the appropriate place to discuss other tracks. NTR will make their own business decitions and I hope that all facilities can make it work thru this tough economy. My original point was that if I need to choose between three local 1/8th mile tracks, NTR will not be my choice. IMO, their track length was the only thing they had going. _________________ Bill Haag |

| I agree with Bill 100%. Water at half track is the ONLY reason they are considering it. Dont kid yourself. racing half track there is just as dangerous as driving tru it. Fix the track or dont build a car you dont feel safe in. Pretty FN stupid in my opinion! |

| im probably just gonna do like Megan and do a gear change, and only race pacrmakers anyway. Track is safe and the race is usually uneventfull. Cars allways going down the track. I have never left their with an attitude and if you know me, that says a lot. |

They will never go 1/8 mile unless track conditions cause it to happen, They are a 1/4 mile track and they intend to stay that way. _________________ "Rejoice in the Lord always." Phil 4:4 |
