Today is a very special day in the history of the NHRA and drag racing in general. January 23rd is the birthday of NHRA founder Wally Parks.
To celebrate, the NHRA community would like to give special thanks to a great gentleman that has made the entertainment and passion that we all love and share possible for us all. If you have anything to share about Wally or just to give thanks, please post here on the page with the hashtag #Wally100
I had the great honor to spend some time with Wally back at the first NHRA Junior Dragster National Championships at Indy. Went to the tower to represent NTR on the PA as they wanted all of the tracks to have someone speak for the first event and someone called out "Are you the driver of the JEGS junior?" Turned around and there was Wally. Spent around 10-15 minutes just talking to him about the event, racing in general, and thanked him for all that he had done for drag racing. Those brief minutes in the Indy tower made the fact of losing at the event right before the quarterfinals really not matter.
For everything that Wally and all the past groundbreakers have done for all of us in the NHRA and drag racing community, we thank you in the small way of continuing to enjoy the great sport that we all love. #Wally100 |
