Firebird and Columbus NHRA rumors are rampant
During the past weekend at couple of well attended racing functions the Agent heard a couple of rumors concerning the NHRA tracks at Phoenix, Ariz., and Columbus, Ohio.
Regarding the Firebird track, from which Charlie Allen will soon depart, the drama continues. The Agent has spoken to several prominent track promoters who thought they had a deal with the Indian tribe that owns the Phoenix-area facility only to have the deal torpedoed. Now the rumor comes from sources in Phoenix that the tribal leaders have asked the current board presiding over the lake, track and the rest of the facilities to resign so that tribal members would handle negotiations for the race track usage. The upshot would be that the supposedly done deals with Bondurant, NHRA, et al. were void and back to square one.
The Agent also heard a strong rumor that the long-suffering NHRA-owned track at Columbus, Ohio, was not making any profit and that the NHRA would soon shutter that historic track. With all of the fiscal austerity that the NHRA has implemented that rumor makes some sense.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the final outcome is on both of these tracks. [03/06/13] |

I had dinner with new NTR track manager Mike Fornataro this evening and the track is booked for the upcoming years. He has implemented eigth mile racing for Super Pro which we all know will increase car counts. (even though I love quarter mile) Also he assured me that only VHT traction compound would be the only choice of chemicals for the surface. The track was awesome after that switch last year.
Running a dragstrip is a tough challenge but I think he is up to the task. |

I also read that. Of course Burk is the same fool that doesn't understand the concept of Go on Yellow! the new marketing campaign from NHRA and Mellow Yellow. He thinks we don't leave on yellow...
Mike is a great guy, and If anyone can get NTR going in the right direction, he can. Let's just hope it's enough to keep the Ivory Tower in Glendora happy. Someones Bentley lease is almost up, and he has his eye on a new one... so the Minions at NTR, Atlanta, and Gainesville better make the King some jack! Or it's off with some heads! Almost makes you wish the Pro Stock Truck drivers would have taken the track when it was offered up as the sacrificial lamb. |
