What a way to end the Points Races! All three classes came down to the last race. Your 2007 M & M Race Cars Super Pro Points Champion is Jim Cluck!

Jim was in second place coming into Saturdays race, which was led by Denny Cobb.  Jim made it all the way to Runner-up to take the points lead over Denny and to become the Super Pro Champion.

There was even more drama in Pro with Brett Spring leading the points at the start of the day.  Brett went three rounds before he was stopped, which meant Dick Cochran would have to win the race just to tie.

Well, Dick did just that when he took out Billy Jude in the final and forced a run off for the Pro Points Championship.

And the winner is Dick Cochran, your 2007 Rock's Trailer Sales Pro Points Champion!

In Sportsman, Laura Lawson started out the day with the lead and Ray Block was the only one that could take it away from her.  Ray's hopes ended with his second round loss. Laura Lawson is your 2007 Jeg's Mail Order Sportsman Points Champion!

And after all that there was still the run off for the "King of the Track"!  Talk about drama! The three new champions were running off for the "King of the Track" and the Wally!
After the coin flip it was Jim Cluck and Dick Cochran running each other and Laura with the Bye.

Jim took out Dick and put himself into the final.

In the final, Laura ran on the number with a 5 teen light to take the win and the Wally!  She is the "Queen of the Track".

It was a great day for racing Saturday, the weather was super, the turnout was very good, we even paid out the bonus money for all three classes! $1500 in Super Pro, $1000 is Pro, and $500 in Sportsman! We also want to welcome some first time racers that show up and hope you will want to keep coming back in enjoy our great race park.

And what a beautiful 57 Chevy...

We want to congratulate Donna and Richard McMahan on their 44th wedding anniversary. And they chose to spend it at the track with us!

Now for the racing! Randy Estridge was due and he picked a good time to win taking home the $1500 prize!  This was one very close final! Randy took out Kenny Brown with a hole-shot in the final with a .507 light and was on with a 6 for a 13 thousands package to Brown's .510 and on with a 5 for a 15 thousands package! That's .002 at the strip!!!

Brian Bell took the win over Brett Spring who had a perfect light in the Pro final but broke out. Brian had a .511 and was on with a 7 for a 18 thousands package!  Those new slicks paid for them self's with that $1000 prize money.

And in the Sportsman final it was two very tough racers! Joy Smith and John Koenig, and on a double break out it was Joy Smith with her first ever win!

Joy picked a good time to win too! She took home $500 for her first win...  That is one big smile on her face...

And this year's JB Communications Service Track Champion is "Shawn Pitts"!

And your Runner-Up is "Kia Lea Spires"!

Austin Eveland took the win in the Junior Race!

And Kyle Smith took Runner-Up!

Don't miss the UMTR Race

June 23rd - Click HERE for details!

To find out more about the U.M.T.R. go to their website at www.umtrnorth.com

The United Manual Transmission Racers  ( UMTR ), the nation's premier all-stick shift drag racing organization, is coming to Mount Vernon. Don't miss the wheelstanding, gear banging action of this Ohio-based touring circuit as over 50 stick shift cars travel to Pacemaker's Dragway just once this year, Saturday June 23rd.

UMTR was established by die-hard stick shift racers desiring to preserve and promote the “lost art” of manual transmission drag racing. These dedicated racers wanted to recreate the rowdy, untamed era of the gasser wars and modified production eliminator. That by-gone age that made you fall in love with drag racing in the first place.  Yes, drag racing like it used to be…….

6/20/07
GRIFFITH, EXPERIENCE RULE THE DAY IN SUPER PRO

(June 16, 2007) - In the world of drag racing, unlike other sports throughout the world, age doesn’t play a factor in how competitive and successful a participant can be.  At the 4th event of the 2007 Budweiser ET Points Series at Pacemakers Dragway Park, Harry Griffith and Dave Phillips both proved that with they matched up in the finals of M&M Race Cars Super Pro eliminator.  The win by Griffith capped a great day of racing at the track.  Griffith was joined in victory by Hoyt Johnson (Rock’s Trailer Sales Pro), Dan Trainer Sr. (Jeg’s Mail Order Sportsman), Ashley Robinson (JB Communications Jr. Dragster Minor), Scott Chitty (JB Communications Jr. Dragster Intermediate), and Kyle Smith (JB Communications Jr. Dragster Major).  Also scoring a win this weekend was Sydney Butler in the opening round of the 6 race High School eliminator competition for the season.

With a combined 122 years at the starting line, the elder Griffith and his 1979 Malibu out of Chesterville, Ohio took out Phillips for the win.  Griffith took care of Jim Stickel, Mark Spring, Mickey Toombs, Kenny Brown, and Chris Cyrus in the opening rounds before taking the bye run into the final round.  While Phillips, driving his 1971 Vega based in Lancaster, Ohio, was defeated in the first round, he used the buyback policy at the track to get to the finals.  Along the way, he defeated Paula Holman, Jay Stowe, had the 4th round bye run, then took care of Greg Braskett and Denny Cobb.  In the final round, Griffith used a great .502 reaction time to get the win in a close race.  Griffith’s 6.57, 102.27 on a 6.56 dial in defeated Phillips 6.43, 103.16 on a 6.42.

The 1989 Mustang of Johnson, from Heath, Ohio, took his first win in the points series chase by defeating Allen Smith in the final round of competition.  Johnson‘s road to the final round started with a defeat of Travis Gayheart.  He then went on to take out Rusty Thompson, Keith Hall, Wes Hiett, John Lawson, and had the bye run to the finals.  Smith, the Newark, Ohio resident in his 1984 S-10, also used the buyback policy to reach the final round.  He put Larry Berry, Wayne Wonders, Brett Spring, Don Yost, and Dan Trainer on the trailer before going up against Johnson.  On the final pass, the race was over at the tree when Smith missed the tree and handed the win to Johnson.  He put down a 6.64, 102.50 on a 6.63 dial in on the victory lap.

In a class where Laura Lawson had been in every final round, her streak was stopped by her boyfriend’s father and tonight’s class winner Trainer Sr.  In the final round of the class, Trainer Sr. kept the class title in the team by defeating Shane Weaver.  Trainer Sr. took his 1973 Cuda from Lockbourne, Ohio past Larry Williams, had the 2nd round bye run, then put Donna and Richard McMahan on the trailer before using a perfect .500 light to stop the streak of Lawson in the semifinals.  Weaver’s 1982 Camaro based in Roseville, Ohio, took out Michael Toombs, Rick Gaddis, John Koenig, Dustin Goodin, and Terry McGee to square off with Trainer Sr. in the finals.  After giving up a edge at the starting line, Trainer Sr. was able to force Weaver to breakout at the stripe for the win.  Trainer Sr. put up a 7.69, 87.34 on his 7.69 dial in while Weaver had a 8.07, 81.24 on his 8.08 dial in.

Robinson won her second race in a row in the Jr. Dragster Minor class when she defeated points rival Austin McKnight in the finals.  The Marengo, Ohio resident Robinson took out Jared Oxley, McKennah Martin, and had the bye run into the final round.  McKnight, from Gahanna, Ohio, got the opening round bye run by qualifying #1 following time trials.  He then defeated Chase Meade, and Tristyn Strouse to reach the final round.  In the championship round, Robinson’s on the dial 12.92, 49.72 force McKnight to breakout with a 12.87, 48.23 pass.

Chitty won his second race of the season by defeating last year’s 8 & 9 year old track champion Dustin Eveland in the final round.  Chitty, out of Uniontown, Ohio, raced to the final round by defeating Cortney Griffith, Ryan Norman, and Payton Kelley.  The Nashport, Ohio native Eveland reached his first final round by defeating Schuyler Turner, has the 2nd round bye, and then took care of Collin McKnight to reach the final pairing.  In the final matchup, Chitty gained the starting line edge and parlayed that to the win.  Chitty’s 8.98, 70.82 on a 8.93 dial in was enough to take care of Eveland’s 8.94, 72.58 on a 8.91 dial in.

Smith, living in LaRue, Ohio, took out teammate Rebecca Rutherford in the final round of the Jr. Dragster Major class.  Smith’s path to the final round went through Kia Lea, Lyndsey Butler, and Ty Witzel.  Rutherford, out of Marengo, Ohio had the opening round bye run by taking the pole in time trials.  She then took out Autummn Robinson, and Austin Eveland to face off with Smith.  In the championship round, Rutherford’s car fell off of the dial in, while Smith continued his strong performance.  Smith ran a 7.91, 78.84 on a 7.90 dial in while Rutherford struggled to a 8.03, 81.35 on her 7.92 dial in.

In the first race of the High School category for the 2007 season, Butler took care of Jason Jones in the finals.  Butler won the double breakout affair in the finals, running a 8.64, 80.80 on her 8.70 dial in while Jones turned a 10.65, 63.12 on a 10.73 dial in.  The High School series will determine the two participants that will represent Pacemakers Dragway Park at the NHRA Divisional Finals at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis in September.

The Junior points are posted! Check them out...

6/3/07
With the rain yesterday we forced ourselves to make a quick announcement that the points race would be rescheduled for next week, after thinking about it and being racers ourselves we realize that it is not fair to all of our points racers that had previously made plans to change our schedule with only a weeks notice. therefore we will study our schedule and points race number 4 will be contested at a later date (with more advance notice). everyone can use their rain-check whenever but it must be presented so please don't lose it. The TSR Series will go on as scheduled next week Saturday the 9th, we hope that this will help everyone involved and continue to make our points series the best it can be for all!

We did get the Junior program in and started running time trials, then the sky turn black and the rain came down hard!

Kyle Smith was showing us how it's done, picking up the front wheels on his awesome Junior Dragster!

We did get most of the time trials in before the rain came.

Then came the rain and and it was a race back to the pits...

LAWSON CONTINUES WINNING WAYS.  LEAHEY, WHITMER MAKE MOVES.

With her best start ever in a racing season, Laura Lawson scored her second Jeg’s Mail Order Sportsman win in three final round appearances at points race #3 in the 14 race Budweiser ET Points Series at Pacemakers Dragway Park.  Lawson was joined in victory by Bill Leahey in M&M Race Cars Super Pro, John Whitmer in Rock’s Trailer Sales Pro, and Phil Freeland in Motorcycle.  This event also marked the beginning of the 8 race JB Communications Junior Dragster Points Series in 2007.  Gaining the opening round wins were Jake Schopp in the Minor Division, Scott Chitty in Intermediate, and Nick Moss in the Major class.

Lawson drove her 1974 Challenger to the win in Sportsman eliminator over Joy Smith in a battle of great female drivers.  The Orient, Ohio resident Lawson got to the final by defeating John Large, John Malaby, Donna McMahan, Brian Toombs, and Terry McGee.  Smith and her 1994 S-10 from Newark, Ohio, got by Chuck Bailey, John Koenig, Bryan Passick, took the bye in round four, and defeated Doug Thompson to reach the championship round.  In the final, Lawson gained a edge at the start that she used to force Smith to breakout.  Lawson’s 7.75, 87.86 on a 7.74 dial won over a too quick 7.66, 88.95 on a 7.69 dial.  With the win, Lawson opens up a healthy 94 point lead over McGee in the points standings.

Leahey and his 2002 Undercover Dragster out of Columbus, Ohio, took out former NHRA Division 3 Super Pro Champion Mac McKnight to win Super Pro.  Leahey put Rich Cooperider, Jeff Buckingham, Michael Parks, Kenny Brown, and Rex Burnett on the trailer before taking the bye run into the finals.  The Gahanna, Ohio driver McKnight piloted his 1967 Camaro past Bruce Ashcraft, Tom Ferguson, Sam Shaffer, Corey Griffith, Denny Cobb, and Don Kinney to match up with Leahey in the final race.  There, McKnight left a heartbreaking .499 red light on the Christmas Tree and made Leahey’s tough 4.90, 139.75 on a 4.90 dial the automatic winner.  Leahey’s win puts him 28 points behind points leader Kinney in the chase for the title.

The 1969 Camaro out of New Albany, Ohio for Whitmer won his second race of the season by taking out David Merrin.  Whitmer’s road to the final round went through Travis Gayhart, the second round bye, Rusty Thompson, James Bailey, and Dick Cochran.  Merrin, out of Fredericktown, Ohio, drove his 1956 Chevy Sedan to wins over Wayne Wonders, Bill Bates, Brett Spring, Hoyt Johnson, and Wes Hiett.  In the championship round, Whitmer‘s car help him overcome a holeshot of Merrin for the win.  Whitmer turned a 7.55, 89.13 on his 7.55 dial in to defeat Merrin’s 7.94, 85.21 on a 7.96 dial in.  The win pushes Whitmer back to the lead in Pro points by 22 over Spring.

Pleasantville, Ohio’s own Freeland defeated former NHRA National Champion Dave Hill in the final round of Motorcycle.  Freeland took his 07 Kawasaki past Bruce Sauer while Hill took out Cory Brenning to reach the finals.  After nearly identical lights, Freeland was able to take the stripe and defeat Hill and his Suzuki.  A 5.93, 113.92 on a 5.92 dial in took care of Hill’s 5.21, 129.63 on a 5.19 dial in for the night’s honors.  Despite the loss, Hill continues to lead the points standings in the class.

Schopp was able to win the JB Communications Jr. Dragster Minor class by defeating Austin McKnight in the final round.  Schopp, from Centerburg, Ohio, was able to drive past Chase Meade, and Ashley Robinson before taking the bye run into the finals.  McKnight, out of Gahanna, Ohio, defeated McKennah Martin, had the round two bye, and then defeated newcomer Jared Oxley to face off with Schopp.  In the final round, McKnight took too much stripe at the top end and broke out, giving the win to Schopp.  Schopp ran a 13.15, 46.28 on his 13.05 dial in to win over McKnight’s 13.04, 45.92 on a 13.10 dial.

Chitty, out of Uniontown, Ohio, drove his Mike Bos Jr. Dragster to victory over Austin Kardules in the finals of the Intermediate class.  Chitty got to the finals by defeating Devin Fox, Billy Hoskinson, and Schuyler Turner.  Kardules, from Pataskala, Ohio, reached the match up with Chitty by taking out Nathan Flowers, Shawn Pitts, and Adam Fox.  In the final encounter, Chitty gained a sizable edge at the start and used it to force Kardules to breakout at the stripe.  Chitty’s 8.92, 73.51 on a 8.90 dial took care of Kardules’s 8.85, 73.66 on a 8.90.

The Halfscale Jr. Dragster of Moss, from Amherst, Ohio, got past Rebecca Rutherford in the final round of the Major division.  Moss defeated Lyndsey Butler, Kevin Rudrick, had the third round bye, and Elizabeth Daley to get to the finals.  Rutherford, and her Marengo, Ohio Halfscale car, took the measure of Rachel Malaby, defending 10-12 year old Division 3 champion Joey Cameron, and Justin Vickers before getting the bye run into the final round.  On the final run, Rutherford left the red light glowing at the starting line, handing the win to Moss.  His 7.97, 81.37 on a 7.99 dial in gained him the win.

The next race at Pacemakers Dragway Park will be during Memorial Day Weekend, while the next race in the Budweiser ET Points Series schedule is for Saturday, June 2nd.

PARKS DOUBLES UP .  SPRING, LAWSON ALSO SCORE
Written by Christopher Stilwell

The second event in the Budweiser ET Points Series at Pacemakers Dragway Park, postponed one day due to rain, rocketed down the Mount Vernon 1/8 mile and produced a great day of racing for Michael Parks.  Parks not only claimed the opening victory of the 6 race Intense 16 class, but also was victorious in M&M Race Cars Super Pro eliminator.  His double win allowed Parks to charge towards the top of the points in both classes.  Joining Parks in victory for the weekend was Brett Spring in Rock’s Trailer Sales Pro, Laura Lawson in Jeg’s Mail Order Sportsman, Mike Scarbrough in Motorcycle and Rebecca Rutherford in JB Communications Junior Dragster.

Parks and his Killbuck, Ohio based 2002 Sherrill Dragster took the win over Corey Griffith in Super Pro eliminator.  Parks used a string of great .500 and .510 lights to defeat Dave Phillips, Melissa Rowe, Bill Burford, Jason Hendrickson, and Jim Cluck to reach the final round.  Griffith, and his 1955 Chevy from Gahanna, Ohio defeated Nathanael Stilwell, Roy Keaser, Bryan Merkle, Bill Leahey, and had the bye to the final round.  In the finals, Parks had his worse light in eliminations but had the car to force Griffith to breakout.  Parks ran a 4.96, 137.68 on a 4.95 dial while Griffith ran a too quick 6.63, 102.47 on a 6.64 dial.

In the battle of Newark, Ohio residents, Spring turned back Allen Smith to win Pro eliminator.  Spring piloted his 1969 Dart past Brad McCoy, Drew Elliott, Terry Pittman, Travis Gayhart, and took the bye run into the finals.  Smith and his 1984 S-10 roared past Kevin Clinedinst, Rob Richter, Shaun Bemiller, Bill Bates, and John Masdea to encounter Spring in the finals.  At the start, Spring gained a substantial lead and used it to win the race on a holeshot.  Spring‘s 7.43, 85.70 on a 7.38 was enough to defeat Smith’s close 6.68, 102.74 on a 6.67 dial.

Laura Lawson and her 1974 Challenger made her second final round in Jeg’s Mail Order Sportsman and defeated Richie O’Neil for the honors.  Lawson took care of Richard McMahan, Phill Horn, John Malaby, Dustin Goodin, and Shane Weaver to reach the final round match up.  O’Neil and his 1981 Mustang out of Reynoldsburg, Ohio got past Will Motley, Wayne Henderson, Joe Lauer, Ray Block, and took the bye run into the final round of competition.  In the championship , round, Lawson got the win when O’Neil broke out at the stripe.  Lawson ran a 7.73, 87.35 on her 7.71 dial in for the win.

In the opening round of the Intense 16 class, the low qualifiers were Chris Cyrus (dragster) and Ronnie Wright (door).  Parks began his run to his second title on the day from the #7 position.  He defeated Adam Lear, Nick Hamilton, and Jim Ries to win the open side of the ladder.  Jim Cluck, from Sunbury, Ohio, powered his 1995 Beretta past John Kammeyer, Wright, and Jared Barge to win the door side.  In the Intense final, Parks made it two for two in finals on the day when Cluck turned the red light on at the starting line.  Parks ran a 4.98, 137.20 for the win.

In other action, Scarbrough and his 1999 Suzuki from Newark, Ohio used a 6.80, 92.62 on a 6.76 dial to defeated Dennis Posey’s 6.50, 109.78 on a 6.42 dial in the final round of Motorcycle.  While in JB Communications Jr. Dragsters, Rutherford from Marengo, Ohio and her 2005 Halfscale used a 7.95, 81.93 pass on her 7.91 dial in to take care of Shelby Griffith’s breakout 7.94, 81.24 on a 7.95 dial in to take the class win.
